The Stourport Ring
The Stourport Ring is one of the most popular circular routes and is ideal for newcomers, several miles being covered before the need to tackle your first lock. Dropping down through the Worcestershire countryside you are soon in the historic, cathedral city of Worcester with all its land based attractions.
Through the two locks and down onto the River Severn turning upstream for the three and a half hour passage up to Stourport, where you glide back into the world of canals. On to Tipton, home of the fascinating 'Black Country Museum', a reconstruction of Victorian streets, workshops, collieries, foundries and boat docks, with an old time fair and working tramway.
Further on and into the very centre of Birmingham the city that boasts more canals than Venice. With the recent huge investment in the waterfront it is now a delight to visit. Out of Birmingham throught the city sprawl, through Wasthill Tunnel (over 2700 yards) and back into the countryside. And now the Tardebigge Flight, the canal boaters ride of passage
